Barrett Family My sincere condolences for your loss. It's everyone loss. It brought tears to my eyes hear of his passing. He was a great friend and teammate. I knew Donny in high school but once we started playing hockey together in 1974 he became more than someone I knew. He became a teammate, a great friend and a brother. The Gustos Hockey Club was like a family to me. His hockey skills weren't the greatest but he improved greatly. He would stand in front of the net and somehow found the puck and put in the net. He played 29 seasons with the team out of 46 and was one of top three scorers all time. He was always cracking jokes and made me laugh every time he was around. He will be deeply missed by everyone. - Posted by: Ray Cote (COACH) ((High School Friend) & Donny's Hockey Coach) on: Feb 11, 2026

My sincere condolences for your lost of a unique individual. Know that the memories that he created with those of us who played sports with him in high school will never be forgotten. I'm almost positive sesame street created Big Bird based on Don's qualities. From the volleyball court to the hockey rink, Don will always be the Big Bird in my heart, and hold the Lady Byng high above his head that he so deserved. - Posted by: Warren Cook (High school friend) on: Feb 11, 2026

Donnie and I spent a lot of time together playing sports, going to socials, parties, and the bars (roadies for our band friends). He was a fun guy to spend time with and a solid friend. We lost touch over the years as Janina and Don started a family and I moved away. I cherish the lunch we had a year ago to catch up and say goodbye . Love you pal. So sorry to hear of his untimely passing. Don was one of my favourite people in high school - he was just so real, and such a pleasure to be around. So open and friendly - what you saw was what you got - not a pretentious bone in his body! And he had all the tools to make him a great basketball player! He will be missed. - Posted by: Dean Scaletta (High School Friend) on: Feb 09, 2026
